What is Chiropractic care and how does it work?
Every cell, organ and system of your body is controlled by the nervous system, consisting of the brain and protected by the skull, the spinal cord, protected by 24 spinal vertebrae and millions of nerves. Everyday activities can cause these 24 vertebrae to move from their normal position, resulting in nervous system dysfunctions, referred to as subluxations or misalignments, ultimately leading to ill health affecting the muscles, joints and organs. Chiropractic detects, reduces and helps prevent nervous system dysfunction.
During an initial chiropractic evaluation, first a thorough Consultation and Examination of your health history is conducted, during which it is determined which areas of your spine are causing problems with regards to your presenting symptoms. Upon identification of a problem in the spinal area, the chiropractor will recommend a plan of care based on age, lifestyle and your condition.
Chiropractic is Safe for Every Member of Your Family
Primarily your care will consist of specific chiropractic adjustments to return individual bones to their proper position, remove nerve interference and restore health. Dr. Stackhouse uses precise manual and light-force spinal adjusting techniques accompanied by highly effective soft tissue release techniques to not only effectively stop the symptoms as soon as possible but also deal with the cause. In addition to chiropractic care, your doctor may recommend additional procedures to optimize your health including nutrition advice and exercise or stretching.
Chiropractic care is a proven, safe method of health care, much safer than the alternatives of aspirin, muscle relaxers and back surgery. Since 1985, when chiropractic was first discovered, millions of patients have been delighted with the chiropractic care they have received. Some patients see results immediately, as children often do, while some adults, often those with long-standing spinal problems, may heal at a slower rate.
There are three stages of chiropractic care:
1) Initial intensive care: Most patients begin their care here. Depending on the severity of the condition, visits may be frequent and this type of care often lasts 4 – 6 weeks. The primary goal is to reduce or eliminate the most obvious symptoms.
2) Rehabilitative care: Once the initial ache or pain is diminished, the objective is to stabilize spinal function and promote a more complex healing. The strengthening of muscles and soft tissues of the spine in this stage help avoid a relapse. Depending on the severity of your condition, this stage may last from 6 months to 2 years.
3) Wellness care: Many patients enjoy regular chiropractic “checkups.” This type of care can save time and money by minimizing the severity of any future problems.
